Two Free Dancing Events this Weekend!

Because I love to salsa dance, frequently people ask me about great places to dance and learn how to salsa dance. Well, my friends, there are two really cool *FREE* events this weekend that I thought I would share with the whole world. And of course, I will be there – come look for me and say hi (I’m Holly - here’s my photo: http://www.myspace.com/bimbombaby )

1) This Friday, June 8th – Dance Downtown – Free Salsa Lesson and Dance

I will be there with several of my non-member salsa dance buddies. This has a really good, clean “non-club” environment. If you come, please introduce yourself to me and I’ll introduce you to everyone I know.

WHERE: Music Center Plaza (outside) in front of the Dorothy Chandler Pavillon
WHEN: 6:30pm - 10:00pm
ADMISSION: FREE - First come, first served.

BEGINNER DANCE LESSON at 6:30PM

LIVE MUSIC from 7:15pm to 10:00pm – featuring Bayaló
Dance floor provided. Dancers of all levels are encouraged to attend.

Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
135 N. Grand Avenue
Los Angeles, CA – 90012

I can’t remember, but you may have to pay for parking at the music center.

2) Saturday afternoon - Free “Cuban” Salsa Dance Class in Bellflower called “Rueda in the Park”

This is my newest addiction, a type of salsa square dance called “Rueda”. I’m still just a beginner but this dance style is loads of fun. Normally these classes are for intermediate salsa dancers but they are now allowing people who can hardly dance to come. Oh, and by the way, we could use more girls in the beginner’s class! I’ll for sure be there!

Here’s the 411:

FREE SALSA & CASINO RUEDA CLASSES:
11:00 am sharp! - Beginners/Novice Casino Rueda by DJ Pod Timba
12:30pm – Intermediate class by Juanderful

John S. Simms Park
16614 S. Clark Ave.
Bellflower, CA 90706
(If you mapquest it, it looks like the park is NOT on Clark, but it
really is). The rueda class is taught way in the back of the park on pavement behind the
baseball diamond beginning at 11am on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of
the month. More info (directions, pictures) can be found at
www.myspace.com/ruedainthepark or http://www.ruedainthepark.com/bellflower/

Here is a great video of some Caltech students doing some intermediate & advance rueda moves (don’t worry, the beginning class is much, much simpler): http://dame.che.caltech.edu/~daven/salcita_current/movies/demo.mov

And here is the group that meets in Griffith Park (associated with our Bellflower group): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFuWzQWHVT0

Don’t miss this great opportunity to make new friends outside of the church, learn a new dance that can be applied to salsa dancing, have a great time, and get a tan while doing it! What more could you ask for?
