WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Please invite your friends to help and begin collecting any of the following supplies described below. Make new friends and enjoy pizza as we assemble the kits together on Saturday, Sept. 8th from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the Islamic Center, 434 S. Vermont, Los Angeles 90020.
ILM (Intellect, Love & Mercy) Foundation provides ongoing help to the most needy citizens in L.A. On Sept. 16th, at the 6th annual Humanitarian Day ILM Foundation will distribute hot meals, clothing, and health care services to the homeless. IRC has committed to donate first aid kits and feminine hygiene products. Items needed include: small bottles of aspirin, dental floss, band-aids, anti-biotic ointment, alcohol swabs, cough drops, q-tips, emery boards, petroleum jelly, boxes of tampons and sanitary pads. Some items can be purchased in larger quantities such as q-tips and band aids, and we will divide them into smaller packages for each kit.
The mission of Umma Community Clinic (www.ummaclinic.org) is to promote the well-being of all under-served people, regardless of nationality or religion, by providing access to high quality healthcare. Located on Florence Avenue, the clinic has a diverse patient population of 15,000. The IRC has committed to donate backpacks and school supplies for the children they serve and books for all ages for the clinic’s literacy program. Because gangs are prevalent in this area, only black or neutral-colored backpacks can be distributed for the children’s safety. No red, blue or green, please. Each backpack (new or gently used) will contain: 4 pencils, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 eraser, 4 notebooks, 1 ruler, 1 pair safety (blunt) scissors, 2 pens, 1 box crayons. Story books (new or gently used) for all ages will be collected in separate boxes.Project Ink - Recycling Ink, Restoring Lives is a small business training project established by Project Our Home, Inc. (projectourhome.org) to teach, train and mentor young men being released from the California Youth Authority, supporting them as they transition back into the community. We will be collecting all brands of used computer printer ink cartridges for their recycling project. Please save your old cartridges and ask your friends, business associates and others to save their cartridges for this worthy project.
Cash donations are also gratefully received and are tax deductible. Every cent will be spent on supplies for the school kits and first aid kits. Make checks payable to:
